Virginalis Hardy Water Lily – A Classic White Beauty

The Virginalis Hardy Water Lily is a timeless classic and one of the most beloved white waterlilies ever created. A masterpiece from the renowned French hybridizer Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac, Virginalis has been admired for over a century for its large, pure-white, cup-shaped blooms that float serenely on the water.

Each flower opens with flawless form — elegant, slightly pointed petals arranged around a glowing golden center. The blooms are gently fragrant and sit gracefully above deep green pads, creating a look that feels both regal and peaceful.

Refined yet vigorous, Virginalis is a reliable perennial that thrives in a wide range of pond types, from formal koi ponds to natural earth-bottom settings. It’s a must-have for any water garden that values classic beauty and enduring performance.

Planting & Care Instructions

  • Plant Size: Medium-to-large hardy waterlily

  • Spread: 4–5 feet across

  • Suggested Container: 15-inch or larger aquatic fabric container, or plant directly into an earth-bottom pond

  • Planting Depth (from soil to water surface): 6–30 inches; blooms best between 8–18 inches

  • Soil: Use heavy loam topsoil or PondGro Aquatic Loam Soil. Avoid bagged compost, peat, or aquatic planting media that float or decay in water.

  • Sunlight Needs: Full sun — at least 6+ hours of strong, direct light daily.

  • Water Conditions: Still or calm water; avoid placing near fountains or splashing features.

  • Blooming Habit: Steady, dependable bloomer throughout summer.

Fertilizing Schedule

  • Fertilize on the 1st and 15th of each month (May–September).

  • Insert 4–5 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tablets 3–4 inches deep around the rhizome crown.

  • Consistent feeding ensures large, luminous flowers and continuous blooming.

Fragrance

The Virginalis Hardy Water Lily emits a light, clean fragrance that enhances its serene visual beauty — subtle enough for formal water features but pleasantly noticeable when you’re nearby.

Water Lily Planting Tips

💡 Plant shallower (8–14 inches deep) for quicker establishment and more blooms.
💡 Use wide containers with heavy loam soil for healthy root expansion.
💡 Divide rhizomes every 2–3 years to maintain vigor and ensure consistent flowering.
💡 Keep the water still for the best bloom display — avoid aeration directly over the plant.
💡 Trim away yellowing leaves and spent flowers to encourage continuous new growth.

Do’s & Don’ts

Do

  • Plant in full sun for abundant blooms.

  • Use heavy loam soil for root stability.

  • Fertilize regularly for the strongest flowering results.

  • Divide every 2–3 years to refresh growth.

  • Keep crowns slightly above the soil surface when planting.

Don’t

  • ❌ Don’t use gravel, compost, or lightweight soil mixes — they cause poor growth.

  • ❌ Don’t bury the crown under soil or stones.

  • ❌ Don’t overcrowd; lilies need space and sunlight.

  • ❌ Don’t plant too deep if heavy blooming is desired.

  • ❌ Don’t delay planting; lilies must stay wet and be potted immediately upon arrival.

Has fit perfectly into my morning espresso
Color: Black&Silver
This seems to me to be an excellent small kitchen scale. I am new to the complexities of espresso making and have begun using this scale every morning to measure my dose and output. It is working just fine. Easy to operate, keep clean and store. I did not give it 5 stars because I have limited comparisons but I don’t expect and will not bother looking for anything better.

Perfectly fits what I needed for my espresso habit!
Color: Black&Silver
This Maestri House mini coffee scale is a great little tool for espresso and pour-over. The size is compact enough to fit under a portafilter or cup, and the 0.1g accuracy makes dialing in coffee much easier. I like the built-in timer, rechargeable USB-C battery, and clean black-and-silver look. It feels precise, practical, and easy to keep near the espresso machine. Great value for anyone who wants more consistent coffee.

Maestro House Mini Coffee Scale
I have begun to drink tea, pu’erh tea to be specific. I have several varieties and I have had a problem with getting consistent results. The varieties can be very different in size depending on when the leaves are harvested (leaves harvested in spring are much smaller). So the easiest way to get consistent results is by weight. This scale is very easy to use with a ceramic tea scoop, set the tea scoop on the scale, zero it out and add tea leaves. This has made my results much better, without the wild swings in strength I had been getting before trying to eyeball even measures. This scale gives me accurate measurements to one tenth of a gram.

Mostly great, except one little annoyance
Color: Black&Silver, Color: Black&Silver
Pros- lightweight, small, very accurate, easy to clean, timer included. Cons- I use this to brew espresso on my Breville Touch and to get an accurate reading, you have to place something flat (structured) under the scale. Otherwise the reading just jumps all over the place. I know lot of espresso machines have the same base, so this might be an issue for some! This is my reason for 4/5 stars. It’s an easy fix, it’s just kind of annoying. Value for the price seems to be on point. It’s easy to clean. It has a timer as well as scale (nice for espresso). Buttons work the first time you push them. That’s it that’s all

TLDR: Buy it. It works well, it has impressive and useful features, it looks great, it’s thin/low-profile, and it’s a great price. Detailed review: I’m very happy with this scale, and it has certainly upped my espresso game by leaps and bounds. I’m able to weigh my beans very precisely down to a tenth of a gram (roughly the weight of a single bean), so my dosing is on point. Also, it fits beneath the portafilter with room to spare for my cup, so I can weigh my shots and accurately measure my input/output ratio. And automatic mode is magic! When the espresso hits the cup, the timer starts running, so I can measure flow rate along with everything else! Overall, super easy to use and very necessary for the at-home barista. One caveat: It acted weird on the 2nd or 3rd day, and I thought I was going to have to return it. The weight would slowly creep up even though I wasn’t adding any coffee. I dusted it off, made sure it was dry, set it on a more stable surface… I still don’t know what the matter was, but it stopped freaking out and it hasn’t really given me any trouble since. Also, I should mention that the automatic function doesn’t always work 100% perfectly; it works, and usually works quite well, but depending on the flow rate, you might get some drops dribbling into the cup and the timer not detect it right away. (I think the timer must be activated according to some sort of algorithm that looks for a certain increase in a certain amount of time, so a slower initial drip rate might not trigger it at first.) Also weirdly, it seems like about half of the time when the weight stops increasing (i.e., espresso stops flowing) , the timer pauses (as I think it’s supposed to do), but other times, the timer keeps running until you manually stop it. I don’t know… It’s a weird glitch, I guess, but it doesn’t really make any difference. The weight is accurate, and that’s the primary thing to keep an eye on. So, is it perfect? No, I guess not. But, it works extremely well and functions perfectly for my purposes. In fact, it’s a lot nicer and fancier than I expected – plus, it’s more affordable and more streamlined than its obvious rival the Acacia.
