The Goodwin Creek lavender, known as Lavandula ‘Goodwin Creek’ is a popular lavender variety known for its striking silvery-grey foliage, deep purple-blue flowers with long bloom time, and rich fragrance. Its versatility, beauty, and ability to attract pollinators have earned it a place in many Mediterranean-style gardens. Besides Opuntia, this Goodwin Creek is one of the few cold hardy plants that withstand winter temperatures as low as -20 °F.

Native to the Mediterranean region, the Lavandula ‘Goodwin Creek’ is often referred to by several common names, including French Lavender, or Lavender ‘Goodwin Creek Grey’. These names reflect its appearance, heritage, and its affinity with the broader family of French lavenders.

The Goodwin Creek Lavender is a relatively compact lavender variety, that can grow up to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide

Its moderate size makes it ideal for borders, garden beds, or containers, offering a neat and well-rounded form that can be pruned to maintain its shape.

The most notable feature of Goodwin Creek Lavender is its soft, woolly, grey-green leaves, which are finely toothed and give the plant a distinct, textured appearance.

The shrub’s foliage emits a calming lavender scent, even when brushed against lightly. The flowers of Goodwin Creek Lavender are a deep purple-blue, blooming from late spring through fall.

The long-lasting blooms are perfect for cut flower arrangements, dried flowers, or simply enjoying in the garden. The flowering spikes are long and graceful, emerging on tall stems that rise above the silvery foliage.

Goodwin Creek lavender is also known for its soothing aroma and potential calming effects, making it a popular choice for aromatherapy and relaxation purposes. Its gentle nature makes it suitable for direct skin contact, such as in homemade bath products or as a natural air freshener.

When and How to Water Your Goodwin Creek Lavender

When it comes to watering, it's important to strike a balance, as lavender plants, including Goodwin Creek lavender, are drought-tolerant once established. Once the lavender is established, usually after the first year, you can reduce the frequency of watering. During this stage, Goodwin Creek lavender prefers drier conditions. Depending on the climate and weather, watering every two to three weeks should suffice.

From spring through early fall, during the growing season, regular watering is crucial, especially in the first year after planting, to help the roots develop properly. It's recommended to water deeply once a week, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. This promotes healthy root growth and prevents overwatering.

In the late fall and winter, during the dormant season, when the plant's growth slows, significantly reduces watering. Only water if the soil becomes very dry, as lavender can suffer from root rot if the soil remains too wet during this period.

Light Requirements – Where to Place Your Goodwin Creek Lavender

When grown indoors, your Lavandula Goodwin Creek thrives best in a bright, sunny location. A south-facing window is ideal, as it provides the maximum amount of sunlight throughout the day. For optimal growth, the plant should receive at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

For outdoor cultivation, Goodwin Creek lavender also requires full sun to thrive. Planting it in a location that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day is crucial.

This exposure helps the plant to develop its aromatic oils and vibrant blooms, which are characteristic of this lavender variety. Additionally, planting in a well-drained area is important, as lavender prefers dry conditions, and excess moisture can lead to root rot.

It's worth noting that while Goodwin Creek lavender can tolerate some light shade, prolonged periods in low-light conditions can hinder its growth and flowering.

Therefore, choosing the right spot in your garden is vital. If you're in a hotter climate, some afternoon shade can be beneficial to prevent the plant from becoming stressed due to excessive heat.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

Goodwin Creek lavender thrives best in well-drained soil that mimics its natural habitat. The optimal soil type for this lavender variety is sandy or gravelly soil which allows for excellent drainage. A pH level between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal, as lavender prefers slightly alkaline conditions.

If your garden soil is heavy or clay-like, it's advisable to amend it with sand or perlite to improve drainage. This will help prevent root rot, which can occur if the roots sit in waterlogged conditions. Instead, make or buy a well-draining potting mix, or ideally use our specialized potting mixGo to planetdesert.com/collections/soil-top-dressing-and-amendments/products/soil-cactus-mix-blend-1-gal-4-qt-cacti-succulent-dirt-compost-growing-media that contains 5 natural substrates and mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your Lavender plant to thrive.

When it comes to fertilization, Goodwin Creek lavender has relatively low nutrient requirements compared to many other plants. Over-fertilizing can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers, which is not desirable for lavender. A light application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can promote healthy growth, but it’s essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions to avoid applying too much. Alternatively, using organic fertilizers, such as compost or well-rotted manure, can provide the necessary nutrients without the risk of over-fertilization.

If you prefer a more tailored approach, you can also use a fertilizer that is specifically formulated for flowering plants, as this can encourage blooming. However, it's best to apply fertilizers sparingly, as lavender is adapted to thrive in less nutrient-rich environments.

Hardiness Zones & More

When grown indoors, the Lavandula Goodwin Creek thrives in temperatures ranging from 60 to 75 °F. It's important to maintain a consistent temperature, as lavender does not tolerate extreme fluctuations. Additionally, indoor humidity levels should be kept relatively low, ideally between 30% to 50%. High humidity can lead to fungal issues, so ensuring good air circulation around the plant is essential. Placing the lavender near a sunny window or using grow lights can help maintain the right temperature and light conditions for healthy growth.

For outdoor cultivation, Goodwin Creek lavender is hardy in USDA hardiness zones 6 to 9. This means it can withstand winter temperatures as low as -20 °F. This range makes it suitable for various climates, but it's crucial to ensure that the plant is not exposed to excessive moisture during the winter months, as this can lead to root rot.

The ideal temperature during the growing season is between 70 to 85 °FWhile lavender can tolerate some heat, excessively high temperatures above 90 °F can stress the plant, especially if combined with high humidity. Therefore, in hotter climates, providing some afternoon shade can be beneficial.

Wildlife - Goodwin Creek Lavender attracts the following Friendly-Pollinators

Goodwin Creek lavender is a fantastic choice for attracting a wide variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds. The nectar-rich, fragrant purple blooms provide a valuable food source for these creatures, especially during the plant’s extended blooming season from early summer to fall. Bees are particularly attracted to the lavender for its high nectar content, while butterflies and hummingbirds are drawn to the vibrant colors and scent.

Dip the cut ends in rooting hormone and place them in a well-drained potting mix. To keep the cuttings moist, place them in a warm, bright area and mist them on a regular basis. Once rooted, they can be moved to larger pots or directly into the garden.

Simple, effective, strong and low profile even for shallow drawers
Color: 4-Pack Black (16"-30" Wide Drawers)
I picked up the iSPECLE 4 Pack Spice Drawer Organizer because I was trying to finally get my spice drawer organized in a way that actually made sense and stayed that way. My bottles were always rolling around or getting buried, so I wanted something low profile that would keep everything visible and easy to reach. The design is really solid and feels more durable than the plastic organizers I have used before. The steel wire construction gives it a sturdy, stable feel, and it does not slide around when opening and closing the drawer. The anti slip base helps keep everything in place, which is important when you are constantly pulling spices in and out while cooking. What I like most is how the tiered layout makes everything visible at a glance. Instead of digging through bottles or shifting things around, I can actually see all my spices right away. It makes cooking a lot smoother because I am not wasting time searching for what I need. Since it comes as a 4 pack, I was able to use the organizers in two drawers and arrange everything I had plus a little extra room for the collection of small bottles of hot sauces I have. My home is older so the drawers are on the narrow side, and low profile, so the rack's super low profile design means I can still close the drawers easily without anything jamming. That was something I was a little concerned about, but it ended up fitting nicely. There is no complicated setup, which I appreciate. I just placed the inserts in the drawer and started organizing right away. Once in place, they stay put and do not need constant adjustment. Overall, it is a simple but very effective spice organization system. The build quality feels strong, it keeps everything visible and accessible, and it has made my kitchen feel much more organized and easier to use day to day.

Perfect Fit! Completely transformed my chaotic spice drawer.
Color: 4-Pack Black (16"-30" Wide Drawers)
I used to waste so much time digging through a cluttered drawer, shuffling bottles around, and accidentally buying duplicates because things were buried. This organizer completely solved that problem. What I Love: True Low Profile: My kitchen drawers are on the shallower side, and I was worried about jamming. Because these have an ultra-low 0.9" profile, the drawer slides open and closed perfectly smoothly, even when fully loaded with standard jars. Smart Modular Design: The fact that it comes in a 4-pack is incredibly convenient. It allowed me to customize the layout to fit my exact drawer width seamlessly, with zero tools or complicated setup required. Heavy-Duty Quality: Unlike cheap plastic inserts or bulky bamboo that absorbs grease and odors, the oil-resistant carbon steel feels sturdy, premium, and is incredibly easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth. No Slip, No Rattle: The anti-slip design actually works. Jars stay locked firmly in place without rolling around or clinking together when I open the drawer in a rush. Seeing all the labels facing up in a clean "stadium view" makes cooking so much more efficient and enjoyable. If your spice drawer is currently a chaotic treasure hunt, do yourself a favor and upgrade to this—it is worth every penny!

Sturdy, with multiple uses around the kitchen and the rest of the house too
Color: 4-Pack Black (16"-30" Wide Drawers), Color: 4-Pack Black (16"-30" Wide Drawers)
These racks have a slim line and they are quite versatile in terms of arranging, which makes them easy to fit with a variety of drawer measurements. The angle of the stepped section is great- enough to make the labels on your bottles easily visible, but not so sharply angled that the edges of the jars are likely to block closing the drawer (and thus be useless). The listing makes it easy to determine whether they will fit. Round jars will also be stable in these racks, and you can double-stack the shorter spice jars. They would also be great for organizing jars of sprinkles and sanding sugars in your baking area. The racks are very sturdy and well made. The coated finish does make it easy to clean by just wiping with a damp sponge. I also found a use for them in my craft room, where they hold multiple containers of glitter and make it very easy to find what I am looking for in a range of similar colors. I have a lot of my glitter in a metal cart, and the rack can be placed over the edge of the cart, so it's also easy to layer some smaller containers underneath and lift the rack in one movement to access those. I've also considered using them as thread racks. I think you could probably come up with any number of handy uses for them. Overall I'd say these are an excellent value for the money and probably an even better value in terms of saving you time and aggravation when looking for the spices, sprinkles (or glitter!) you want to use.

🌶️ Adjustable, sturdy spice organizer that saved my small side drawer
Color: 4-Pack Black (16"-30" Wide Drawers)
I picked this iSPECLE 4-pack spice drawer organizer because I needed a neater way to store spice jars without them rolling around or getting buried in the drawer. Thank heavens it's adjustable because I'm using it in a small side drawer, and that flexibility makes a big difference. It is meant for drawers about 15" to 30" wide, so it should fit a good range of kitchen drawer sizes as long as the drawer has enough depth for your jars. The carbon steel feels sturdier than the thin plastic spice inserts I've seen in discount and big-box stores, and the black finish gives it a cleaner, more modern look inside the drawer. I like that the two-tier design angles the jars enough to see the labels more easily, instead of having everything flat and stacked on top of each other. It is best for adults, older teens setting up a kitchen, small apartment users, RV owners, or anyone trying to make a cluttered spice drawer easier to use. The low-profile design is also important because taller organizers can cause drawer jamming, especially if your spice jars are a little bigger. This one keeps things more contained without adding too much height. For value, getting four pieces makes it more useful than buying one small insert at a time, and the metal construction feels like it should hold up better than many cheaper plastic options. 🔑 Key Features 👉 4-piece spice drawer organizer set 👉 Adjustable fit for 15"-30" wide kitchen drawers 👉 2-tier angled design helps labels stay visible 👉 Carbon steel construction feels sturdy and more durable than basic plastic inserts 👉 Low-profile shape helps reduce drawer jamming 👉 Anti-slip and oil-resistant surface makes it easier to keep clean 👉 Black finish looks neat and modern inside the drawer ✨ Pros ✅ Adjustable pieces are helpful for smaller or oddly sized drawers ✅ Makes spice jars easier to see and grab quickly while cooking ✅ Metal design feels stronger than thin plastic organizers ✅ Low enough that the drawer still closes smoothly in my setup ✅ Helps turn a messy side drawer into a more organized space ✅ Easy to wipe down if spices or oil residue get on it ⚠️ Cons ❌ You still need to measure your drawer height and spice jars before ordering ❌ Larger seasoning bottles may not sit as neatly as standard spice jars ❌ Black finish may show dust or light spice residue more than clear plastic ❌ Works best in a drawer, not as a countertop display rack 💡 Final Thoughts Overall, this is a practical upgrade for anyone who wants their spice drawer to look cleaner and function better without a complicated setup. I especially like that it adjusts, because a small side drawer can be tricky to organize. It feels sturdy, looks nicer than cheap plastic inserts, and makes it easier to find spices while cooking. I'd recommend it for adults, older teens, apartment kitchens, RV kitchens, or anyone who likes a more organized cooking space.

Works well, very adjustable
Color: 4-Pack Black (16"-30" Wide Drawers)
I love these so much. They are super low profile, which solved the problem of the last set of these that I got that were way too tall for my shallow little drawers. They do exactly the job they say, and before you say that you could just lay your spices flat, this allows for easy access to pick them up since they're at an angle. The only complication for something like this is that your spices have to be pretty uniform in size. If that's not an issue for you, then this will be a good fit. I have really struggled to organize with limited space in this kitchen, and it's little solutions like this that are simple but really make a big difference. My drawers are quite narrow in addition to being quite shallow, so I actually used this as two separate organizers instead of sliding them to fill the whole drawer, though that would also be really effective. The adjustability is really the genius of this design. I might not pay $25 to house $25 worth of spices, except there really isn't another solution in my kitchen so I'm quite grateful for these at this price!!
