Anthurium ivanportillae

Long, narrow foliage gives Anthurium ivanportillae an elongated outline, with textured green blades that need open space as new leaves expand and harden. The plant develops a narrow profile in the pot, with most of its visible detail coming from leaf length, surface texture and clean blade extension.

This species comes from wet tropical forest in Ecuador’s Zamora-Chinchipe area near the Cordillera del Cóndor. Indoors, it grows best with bright filtered light, stable humidity and a loose, moisture-retentive substrate.

Leaf form and structure of Anthurium ivanportillae

  • Leaf shape: Long, narrow blades that give the plant a vertical, elongated outline.
  • Surface: Textured foliage that can show ribbing on developed leaves.
  • Growth space: Leaves extend outward and need clearance from walls, glass and neighbouring pots.
  • Origin: Native to Ecuador in wet tropical conditions.
  • Indoor habit: Best placed where the blades can extend without rubbing against hard surfaces.

Narrow foliage in indoor growing

The long leaves of Anthurium ivanportillae expand with fewer marks when they are not pressed against shelves, glass or nearby foliage. A loose substrate keeps the root zone airy, while steady humidity reduces creasing and sticking as new leaves harden.

The textured surface can mark under direct sun or dry, unstable air. Position the plant where light reaches the whole leaf surface softly and where airflow stays gentle around the foliage.

Care for Anthurium ivanportillae

  • Light: Grow in bright filtered light with protection from direct sun.
  • Humidity: Keep humidity steady, especially while new leaves are opening and hardening.
  • Water: Water once the upper 20–30% of the mix has dried, then drain the pot fully.
  • Substrate: Use an airy aroid mix with coarse bark, coco chips, perlite and moisture-holding organic matter.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally above 18°C, with steady conditions around the root zone.
  • Leaf spacing: Give the narrow blades enough room to extend so new leaves do not press against glass or nearby foliage.
  • Pot choice: Use a pot with drainage and enough depth for an open, active root system.

Issues to watch on Anthurium ivanportillae

  • Stuck new leaves: Usually linked to unstable humidity or contact with nearby surfaces during expansion.
  • Tan marks on ridges: Can follow direct sun, dry air or rough handling of the textured surface.
  • Soft roots: Dense, saturated substrate can damage the root system quickly in cool conditions.
  • Fine speckling: Inspect leaf undersides and ribbed areas for mites or thrips.
  • Weak extension: Low light can produce longer spacing and smaller leaves.

Safety for Anthurium ivanportillae

Anthurium ivanportillae contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Plant tissue can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes, so place it out of reach of pets and children.

Name origin and publication

Anthurium ivanportillae was formally described in 2021. The species name honours Ivan Portilla, who collected and cultivated the plant.

Mature leaves give Anthurium ivanportillae a narrow, textured outline, with long blades extending outward from the pot.

Traditional Grown Man Shirt
Size: Large, Color: Light Grey Vertical Stripe
Great cotton, classically-style button down shirt for guys not wanting anything slim fit, this shirt size is legitimate. It’s a nice heavyweight cotton shirt. I don’t think I’d say it was wrinkle resistant but it doesn’t take much effort to press this garment.

Softer and Larger than Expected
I was a bit wary of this shirt because I had only purchased 100% cotton ones in the past. My first impression out of the package was how soft the material felt. I was very impressed because it usually takes many washings before oxford cloth shirts get that soft. When I put it on, I discovered that there was no noticeable difference made with the small amount of stretch fabric woven into the shirt. I suspect that there would be some give if I wore the shirt as a tight fit, but I prefer my shirts loose, so it wasn't an issue. I found that the shirt was larger than other same sized shirts I've received from Amazon in the past--bigger is better than smaller, but if you are looking for a close fit, you will want to be conservative in the size you order. I didn't realize until I'd been wearing it for a while that it lacks a pocket, I went to put my glasses in my shirt pocket and there wasn't one!

True oxford, comfortable, good fit, iron
Size: Large, Color: Light Grey
Great clean-cut, casual shirt. Material is thick as you should expect for a true oxford shirt, even with the stretch/elastane. Good fit, sleeves arent overly long. You’ll probably need to iron it. Overall very happy with purchase.

Amazon Essentials competes well with other store brands
Very Nice and comfortable shirt, on the thicker side and is slightly blue, baby blue perfect in fall winter might be a little thick for summer. the buttons and stitching all seem well done for the price. The size was true and fit great, the big tall size worked great, the shirt does not seem to wrinkle easily since it is thicker

Really great shirt, really thick material
An unexpected pleasant surprise. Really nice quality, minimal shrinkage, and very few wrinkles out of the dryer. Nice, comfortable fit, and for big-but-not-tall guys, the fitment is very presentable. Sleeves aren't crazy long, and the shirt itself isn't so long that you feel like you're wearing a dress. These aren't complaints, but I do want to share two notes that were important to me: 1. If you want a breast pocket, be sure to select the right shirt. There are two different versions, and it's not particularly obvious which is which. 2. The material is thick. Really thick. So the shirt is pretty heavy, and it doesn't breathe very well. For me, this is unquestionably a winter shirt. If, like me, you tend to run a bit warm, this shirt can make you feel like you're wearing a parka.
