The Calathea ornata, ‘Beauty Star’ is a perennial plant with long and narrow dark green leaves, that are flamboyantly stripped in pale green, silver, and white. The underside of the leaves are a rich purple. The Calathea 'Beauty Star' belongs to the Marantaceae family. Like other plants in the Marantaceae family, this Calathea has the interesting habit of rising leaves in the morning and lowering them at night, like in prayer, giving it the nickname “prayer plant”.

Prefers low light to indirect.

Prefers moist soil. Be sure to keep the soil constantly moist, but not soggy. 

Common problems you may face with your Calathea is under watering, overwatering, or fungal infection. The signs of under watering are dry soil and wilting/curling leaves. Overwatering can often cause your plant’s leaves to yellow and leave the base of the plant black. Fungal infections can be diagnosed by spots on your leaves, caused by a buildup of minerals and fungus from tap water. It’s recommended you either use distilled water or leave water out 24 hours before watering.
