Oregano - Cuban Oregano (Plectranthus Coleus amboinicus) Broadleaf Thyme Indian Borage Mexican Mint Non GMO & Organic Herb

Perennial

Height: 12 to 18 in

Cuban oregano, also known as Broadleaf Thyme, Indian Borage, Mexican Mint (not to be confused with Mexican Mint Marigold - Tagetes lucida), Mexican Thyme, Orégano Brujo and Spanish Thyme, and is a hardy highly aromatic succulent herb often grown as a houseplant, and can be grown outside during the summer or year round in warmer climates.

The stem is similar to that of a succulent with new growth with rounded, thick, and velvety leaves that grow in pairs around the stem. The leaves are green, serrated along the edges and contain pungent oils, which can be utilized for cooking uses. Cuban oregano has a strong, pungent and musky aroma, with a flavour profile that is similar to traditional Italian oregano with a hint of thyme.

Cuban seasoned chopped beef features Cuban Oregano, along with onions, garlic, tomatoes, apples, and almonds. Though Cuban Oregano/Broadleaf Thyme is called by many different names, its distinctive and strong flavour makes it a key ingredient in several traditional Cuban and Jamaican recipes.

In India, the leaves have many medicinal and ayurvedic applications. Cuban Oregano is traditionally used for treating cold, cough, and fever in infants. In Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, the leaves are dipped in chick pea batter and fried like pakoras(bajis).

  • Full sun to part shade
  • Soil well draining
  • Start seeds indoors 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost; surface sow and press seed into soil to make contact. Do Not Cover Seed. Plant 1 seed per pot and keep moist until germination
  • OR direct sow outdoors after all risk of frost has passed.
  • Germination: 21 to 28 day
  • Transplant or direct spacing: Rows 18 in apart; thin seedlings 8 to 12 inches
  • Cuban Oregano is frost tender in warmer climates, but will do well in cooler climates if grown in a pot and brought indoors, or moved to a warm sheltered position in winter. The plant should be watered only sparingly.
  • Seed Count: 5

Durable
Size: Medium & Large, Color: Red Scorpion
This bone has proved to be durable and tasty (per our Labrador). She chews and chews with barely a dent. I’m guessing the flavor is good because it’s still her go-to bone after almost a week. Beware of your pet dropping it on your toes though as it is quite hard.

Dog approved!
My dogs love this. This is the 3rd time I have bought them. They are entertained for hours and keeping their teeth strong. They pay me no attention when they have this toy. 😂

Our Dog Loves This One
We got our dog two nylabones and this benebone and he really prefers this one. Like the nylabones he barely even looked at, but he loves this one so much it's starting to splinter off a little. Apparently it can just be sanded down again but I'll probably end up getting more of these so that we can switch them out. I noticed that the shape also helps him be able to handle it with his paws.

Initially showed little interest, then decided she loved it
The product itself looks great and is clearly very well made but my dog had zero interest initially in this which I find odd because many other similar toys she has attacked. Update —- several weeks later all of a sudden my dog decided she liked this and started chewing on it and has been her favorite - go figure Update 2 — it’s become her favorite chew and she’s obsessed with it! My older dog started chewing on it, and it broke one of her old teeth!
