ABOUT OUR SANSEVIERIA ZEYLANICA

Hello, I’m Sammy the Sansevieria zeylanica. I’m more commonly known as the black coral snake plant, thanks to my tall, sword-shaped leaves. Cast an eye over me and you’ll notice I look a little ssssstrangel: my broad leaves are covered with black stripe patterns which, if you see them out of the corner of your eye, might make you worry that a slithering visitor might have snuck into your space. I joke, I joke: I won’t scare you, I promise!

Like our namesake creatures, there are plenty of us in the wild, where you’ll find us dotted around South East Asia and Africa. While I might be native to tropical climes, I’m actually a bit of a cool customer and can grow in colder, less humid and even darker conditions.

As far as indoor plants go, I’m actually very adaptable to my surroundings and I’m one of those houseplants that will look good in a draughty hallway, sunny conservatory or dark bathroom. If you’re a beginner, let’s be friends: I’m a super easy-care plant who’s perfect for adding greenery to your home.

Sammy is so easy to care for as long as you let her soil completely dry out before you water again.

LIGHTING

I can tolerate low, medium and bright light. Avoid direct sunlight as this can burn my leaves.

WATERING

I’m very drought tolerant and can go many weeks without water. Let my soil completely dry out before you water me again.

HUMIDITY

I can cope with low humidity but prefer a more humid environment.

FERTILISER

Use a diluted fertiliser once every summer to encourage new growth.

How do you take care of a Sansevieria zeylanica?

Sammy is very easy to care for providing she’s kept out of direct sunlight and her watering schedule is kept to a minimum. Snake plants will hold water in their leaves so even if their soil is completely dry, they will still survive. Overwatering is probably the biggest threat to Sammy’s safety!

Does the Sansevieria zeylanica need sunlight to grow?

Yes, all plants need some natural light to survive but this snake plant can tolerate lower lighting conditions away from any windows or in a dark hallway. They do prefer a brighter spot, however, and will grow faster in a well lit room.

Do all snake plants clean the air?

There are over 70 species of snake plant and they’re all known to absorb common household toxins such as formaldehyde and benzene through their leaves - which means the air in your home will end up cleaner once she’s done her bit!

PLANT STYLING TIPS

Style Sammy’s dark leaves on a bedside table or dresser for stunning interior decor. Use a white pot or place her in front of a white wall so her rich coloured leaves stand out. Use large Sammy as a focal point and place small plants with the same dark green foliage like Andy and Zoe for added drama to your room.

Cute small town and found family.

Evie and Maddox’s story was so sweet. Obviously there were many parts that I wouldn’t call sweet, but overall it was a cute love story. I thought the author did a great job with the Grumpy X Sunshine trope. Cause Maddox is def a big ol grumpy. The found family trope is so strong in this book and I think that might be my fav part! Were there a few parts that Maddox made me realllllll upset? Ohh yes absolutely. In reality tho, that almost made him more believable. In no way am I giving an excuse for how he used her trauma against her. Cause that was absolute trash. But I did enjoy him spending the rest of the book attempting to make up for it. He could’ve groveled more tho lol. I absolutely loved the twins relationship with each character in this book. I think they were so important to the story and added that extra bit. How they protected their mama so fiercely was everything. It felt like some of these scenes were just thrown together. Meaning, some details were just dropped in but no other context with it. Like tidbits of info that didn’t really go with any part. Other scenes were clearly thought out with so much detail. The storyline was really interesting. I enjoyed that the FMC/MMC were able to show their trauma and grow and heal from it. I loved how the author showed the MC’s were able to live outside of their trauma and be who they are, not who the trauma made them. I think this was a very good debut novel depicting just how common the cycle of abuse can be, but even more so how you can break out of it. Not all homes are filled with love and understanding, but Evie was bound and determined to have that in her home.

So I saw this book on Instagram from someone I follow and was immediately intrigued. And let me tell you I am so glad I picked this up. I literally could not put it down and read it in a day. I am absolutely in love with evie and Maddox. I mean seriously Maddox 😭 I love him so much and that poor brute has been through so much but is just the most lovable thing. And Evie ugh that woman has been through it but is so strong. Every side character in this book is just as amazing too. The twins, Vic, Lou, and don't even get me started on the other Wilder boys😍 this book had everything, it's emotional, heartbreaking, thrilling and just an all around amazing love story. This will be a book I definitely re-read and I don't do that often. Also need to buy a physical copy like ASAP. But what I really need is Mercy's story like, yesterday. He is absolutely my favorite side character in this book and I will be so sad if he doesn't get his own story!

The characters were complex, but well developed. Even the side characters were amazing. The setting of the story was well thought out and came to life on the pages. Tuesday James... lord have MERCY!! I cannot believe this was your first book, to think that you are just getting started terrifies me and leaves me on the edge of my seat! The absolute chokehold that this book has had on me... cannot be put into words. I waited for this book to be released. I saw teaser reels on IG and saved it on my TBR and patiently waited. The moment it became available I DEVOURED it! I read it in one day, and it is definitely in my top favorites of all time and I read a lot. I have a soft spot for victims of domestic violence and all other forms of abuse as I grew up in a similar environment and when I say that this book captured and represented victims of DV beautifully, I mean it with my whole chest. I saw so many similarities in Evie that I could relate to and how she didn't want to be saved she wanted someone to stand beside her... and boy oh boy was that Maddox Wilder! Maddox is haunted by his own ghosts and after meeting Evie they bond over their pasts and push each other to be better. Evie is the definition of a single mom doing the very best that she can, and I loved every second of sweetness Tuesday shared of her adorable twin boys. I found myself thinking several times, I want to be in Evie and Louisiana's friend circle. This book is angsty, full of funny banter, suspenseful, filled with little boy cuteness/silliness and full of all the steamy good parts. Definitely read the trigger warnings, as it explores darker themes and may not be for everyone. For me this one was a 12 out of 10 and Tuesday James will be an automatic read for me. Do not even get me started on my anticipation for Mr. Mercy Wilder because do not have words. I also CANNOT WAIT for Louisiana's book, I fell in love with her instantly. Do yourself a favor and read this book, it had all the things. And Tuesday, please do us all favor and keep writing books like this one that embed in my brain and I cannot stop thinking about!!
