The Pink Nerve Plant, known as Fittonia albivenis ‘Pink’, is a striking popular houseplant cherished for its vibrant, veined, deep-green leaves. Often grown in terrariums, hanging baskets, or as ground cover in tropical gardens.

The Pink Nerve Plant thrives in humid conditions and offers a splash of color to any indoor space. This non-toxic plant has the ability to adapt to indoor conditions and brighten up low-light spaces ensuring its continued popularity in homes, offices, and public spaces.

The term "nerve plant" refers to the striking vein structures that run through its leaves, giving them a net-like appearance.

The pink variety stands out among its relatives due to its softer, pastel-colored venation, which adds a delicate and decorative touch to plant collections.

Native to the rainforests of South America, this evergreen perennial is commonly referred to as the Mosaic Plant or Pink Vein Plant, or Pink Fittonia.

When grown indoors as a houseplant, the Pink Nerve Plant remains compact and typically grows up to 6 inches tall with a trailing spread of 18 inches wide.

Its creeping or trailing growth habit makes it an excellent choice for terrariums, dish gardens, or as a spiller plant in mixed arrangements.

In its natural habitat, however, it spreads across the forest floor, forming lush mats of colorful foliage.

One of the defining features of the Pink Nerve Plant is its soft, oval-shaped leaves adorned with intricate pink veining. It also comes in a variety of colors such as red, green, and white. The plant’s bushy, low-growing nature makes it perfect for creating a dense, colorful display in containers or shaded garden beds.

The Nerve plant’s flowers are typically white or pale yellow and grow on short spikes, in the summer. However, flowering is rare in indoor conditions, as the plant focuses its energy on foliage growth. Most growers pinch off flower spikes to encourage more lush and compact leaf development.

A unique feature of the Pink Nerve Plant is its love for high humidity and its ability to thrive in terrariums or closed plant environments. Unlike many houseplants that struggle in humid conditions, this plant flourishes in moisture-rich air, making it an ideal choice for humidifiers, glass enclosures, or tropical-themed arrangements.

When and How to Water Your Nerve Plant

To water your pink nerve plant, check the soil by inserting your finger about an inch deep—if it feels dry, it's time to water. Remember, it can be drought-tolerant once established. In the spring and summer, during the growing period, the soil should remain evenly moist but not soggy, as excessive water can lead to root rot. Watering 2 times per week is generally sufficient, but in humid indoor environments, Fittonia requires less frequent watering since the moisture in the air helps keep it hydrated. Using filtered or room-temperature water is ideal to prevent stress on the plant.

In fall and winter, during the dormant season, the plant's growth slows, and it requires less frequent watering. Watering once every 1-2 weeks or whenever the top two inches of soil feel dry is recommended. Overwatering during dormancy can lead to root issues, so reducing frequency while maintaining some soil moisture is essential.

Additionally, it exhibits a dramatic response to dehydration—when the soil dries out, the leaves will droop significantly but quickly recover once watered, making it a great indicator plant for moisture levels.

Light Requirements – Where to Place Your Pink Nerve Plant

The nerve plant is mostly grown indoors as a houseplant, as it thrives in bright, indirect light.

Direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves, while too little light will cause its vibrant colors to fade.

Ideally, place it near an east- or north-facing window where it receives 4 to 6 hours of indirect light daily.

If natural light is insufficient, supplementing with grow lights can help maintain its vibrant foliage.

Avoid placing it near heating vents or air conditioners, as sudden temperature changes can stress the plant.

Outdoor growing is possible in shaded or semi-shaded locations. Ensure it receives morning sunlight followed by afternoon shade, as prolonged exposure to intense sun can burn its leaves.

In warm climates, Pink Nerve Plants thrive in high-humidity environments with dappled light. If growing outside, placing them under a tree canopy, on a covered patio, or using shade cloth can help regulate light exposure.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The Fittonia Plants prefer well-draining, nutrient-rich soil that retains moisture without becoming soggy. Planting them in ordinary soil will result in compacted roots, stunted growth, and most likely root rot. Planet Desert has specialized potting soil, opens in a new tabGo to soil cactus mix blend 1 gal 4 qt cacti succulent dirt compost growing media that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your succulents thrive.

Fertilization is essential for maintaining the nerve plant’s vibrant foliage. During the growing season in the spring, applying a balanced liquid NPK fertilizer (5-10-5) once a year will promote lush growth. In the dormant season, fertilization stops entirely to prevent excessive growth when the plant is not actively producing new leaves.

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing indoors as a houseplant, your Nerve plant thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F, with humidity levels of 50% or higher. If the air is too dry, using a humidifier, pebble tray, or misting can help keep the foliage healthy. Sudden temperature fluctuations or exposure to drafts from air conditioners and heaters can cause leaf drop or stress.

In the United States, this is mostly an indoor plant, but if you live in southern Florida or Hawaii then you can cultivate it outdoors in USDA zones 10-11, where temperatures stay warm year-round.

In high-humidity environments, Pink Nerve Plants flourish under filtered light.

If exposed to extreme heat, the leaves may become slightly paler, while cooler temperatures might slow growth significantly.

For those outside these zones, it’s best to grow them as indoor plants or bring them inside when temperatures drop below 50°F.

Wildlife – Pink Nerve Plant Flowers Attract the Following Friendly Pollinators

The Pink Fittonia Nerve Plant attracts pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, a few insects, or certain flies. The plant's small, white, or pale flowers are arranged in clusters that are visually appealing to pollinators. However, since it is mainly grown for its foliage, flowering is rare, especially indoors.

According to the ASPCA, the Pink Nerve Plant is non-toxic to humans, cats, dogs, and birds. This makes it a safe choice for pet owners looking for a vibrant, low-risk houseplant.

How to Propagate Nerve Plant Fittonia

To propagate nerve plant Fittonia, start by taking stem cuttings that are at least 2-3 inches long. Remove any leaves from the bottom of the cutting and place them in a small pot with well-draining soil. Keep the soil consistently moist and place the cutting in a warm, humid environment to encourage root growth. After a few weeks, roots should begin to form, and you can transplant the cutting into a larger pot to continue growing.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the Pink Nerve Plant is a stunning, low-maintenance houseplant that thrives in humid, warm environments with bright, indirect light. Its striking pink veins and lush green leaves add a vibrant touch to any indoor space. With proper watering, well-draining soil, and occasional feeding, it remains a resilient and eye-catching addition to any plant collection. Whether grown indoors or in suitable outdoor conditions, it provides an effortless way to bring color and life to your space. Plus, its pet-friendly nature makes it a perfect choice for households with furry companions!

PLEASE REVIEW — FORMULA CHANGED!!!
I wish I would’ve posted a review PRIOR to the formula changing but just know that I LOVED this serum. I’ve struggled with hormonal acne (PCOS) and eczema for as long as I can remember. Finally, last summer my dermatologist put me on (3) different RX including Spironolactone and Accutane. I was so tired so I stopped everything except for CeraVe cleanser, retinol (Tretinoin) and CeraVe healing ointment. My made up skin routine was working until I used too much Tretinoin and burned my face. I had read great reviews about this product so I thought, I might as well try it — and IT WORKED! I’ve been using this product for almost a year and I loved it. However, 3 weeks ago when I ordered it, I noticed the bottle had a green tint. I could tell after one use that the feel of the serum was different, more watery, not as thick as it used to be. The smell was also different. Still, I kept using it for nearly 2 weeks and I experienced 2 breakouts! Sure enough, I stopped the product and within a few days, my skin was back to normal. I am very upset because as someone who has extremely sensitive skin, this worked but unfortunately, the new formula isn’t for me.

I have found my HOLY GRAIL of makeup removers and face cleansers!
Scent: Unscented, Size: 6.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This has to be the best face cleanser/makeup removers I have ever used in my 42 years of existence. Now before I tell you about the product - let me tell you about my skin: Uber sensitive, oily T-section, very prone to breakouts, blackheads, eczema, blotches, allergic reactions, you name it. I just look at some cleansers and my skin breaks out. I wear contact lenses, and my eyes are sensitive too. Now the last thing I would ever think of putting on my face is anything that has an "oil" in it, yet alone a product that IS an "oil." First of all, logic dictates that oil and water don't mix, plus if you've ever dripped salad oil on your chin, you know it's impossible to get out - and your skin feels greasy even after 2 showers later. And then you break out with a pimple there because your pores got clogged. Right? Now getting back to this product. I was watching one of those shopping channels on TV, and this really pricey cleansing oil comes on. And the lady just rubs the cleansing oil into her skin with her dry fingers (no water) and the makeup just melts off. She rubs it into waterproof lipstick, takes a white cloth and the whole thing wipes right off in one swoop! Noo... that's impossible. Then she does it again on her eyes - dry hands, pumps a few drips of the oil into her hand, massages it into her eyelids, and within 10 seconds later even the waterproof mascara gets wiped away with the cloth. Now there was no way I was going to pay $120 a bottle for their cleansing oil, so I went on Amazon to see if there was a comparable alternative. I came across this DHC one and figured, what the heck? Wow! I cannot believe it - this stuff works incredibly! I did it the same way as on TV, and my eyeshadow, waterproof eyeliner, and waterproof mascara, even the glue from false eyelashes just comes right off. I just pump 2-3 pumps of oil in my hand, close my eyes, rub my face with this oil for like 10-12 seconds, feel around for the cotton pad on the counter without opening my eyes, and wipe away the oil around my eyes, lips. Then I cup my hands with warm water and splash it on my face several times. Supposedly you don't have to use water, but I do. The oil comes right off - no oily feeling at all. And my skin is smooth. Now this sounds crazy - but the blackheads around my nose area - 100% gone! Somehow this oil (over a week's time) works better than any clay mask I have ever used in removing clogged pores. Just in case you also wear contacts, you know contacts plus any oil is bad and makes red, itchy, dry eyes. So I usually remove my contacts (just in case) first, and then wash my face. Or if I have to put my contacts back in right afterwards, I do use a normal cleanser for my face afterwards in my eye area, just to ensure there's no trace of oil. So far (been through 3 bottles) I have not had any problems. No breakouts, no scrubbing to get off makeup, no itchy skin, no blackheads - actually I think it might be protecting my skin somehow because even during this itchy pollen season, I'm perfectly fine. Love love love this stuff!!!

Use it daily to get sunscreen off
Scent: Unscented, Size: 4.1 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I use this every single day to remove my sunscreen at the end of the day. If you wear SPF daily you know how hard it is to fully get it off with a regular cleanser. This oil breaks it down completely without scrubbing or tugging at your face. The gentleness is what keeps me coming back. I massage it onto dry skin for about a minute and everything dissolves. Sunscreen, any makeup residue, whatever built up during the day. It rinses clean with water and leaves zero greasy residue behind. My skin feels fresh after, not stripped or tight. No fragrance and no colorant. I appreciate that because my skin reacts to basically everything unnecessary in a formula. Zero skin irritation after months of daily use. The ingredients are simple and effective. Olive oil based with vitamin E and it doesn't try to do too much. Just cleans thoroughly and gets out of the way. My skin appearance has honestly improved since I started using this consistently. I think properly removing sunscreen every night was the missing step in my routine. Pores look cleaner, fewer random breakouts, and my other products absorb better on freshly cleansed skin. The medium 4.1 oz bottle lasts me about two months with nightly use. Already on my third bottle and it's another subscribe and save staple.

Still One of the Best Cleansing Oils I’ve Ever Used After Years of Repurchasing
Scent: Unscented, Size: 7.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I rarely stay loyal to skincare products for years because I’m always testing and trying new things, but DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is one of the very few products that has remained a permanent part of my routine. I’ve repurchased this multiple times over the years, and every time I try another cleansing oil, I eventually come back to this one because the performance is just consistently good. The first thing that stands out is how effective it is at removing makeup. I wear waterproof mascara, eyeliner, sunscreen, and long-wear foundation regularly, and this breaks everything down incredibly fast without needing to aggressively rub my skin. I usually apply one pump onto dry hands and massage it onto my dry face for about 30 seconds. You can literally feel the makeup dissolving almost immediately, especially around the eye area where stubborn makeup usually takes extra effort to remove. What I really appreciate is that it removes heavy makeup in one application. I don’t have to go back in multiple times or use separate eye makeup removers anymore. Even waterproof mascara that normally leaves residue around the lashes comes off cleanly. That alone saves me so much time at night when I’m exhausted and just want my skincare routine done quickly. Once water is added, the oil transforms into a light milky texture that spreads evenly and rinses away very easily. A lot of cleansing oils claim to rinse clean but still leave behind a greasy film that makes me feel like I need another cleanser immediately afterward. This one actually rinses off properly with water and leaves my skin feeling clean, soft, and balanced instead of heavy or sticky. Another reason I’ve continued using this for years is because it doesn’t make my skin feel stripped. My skin tends to get dehydrated easily if I use harsh cleansers, especially during colder months, but this leaves my face feeling comfortable and hydrated. The olive oil and vitamin E in the formula definitely help with keeping the skin soft after cleansing. My skin usually feels smoother and calmer afterward instead of tight and irritated. I also haven’t experienced clogged pores from this, which surprised me because I was originally nervous about putting an oil cleanser on my face. Instead, it actually helps loosen buildup and sunscreen better than many foaming cleansers I’ve tried. My skin texture always looks cleaner and more refreshed after using it consistently. The bottle also lasts a very long time because you honestly don’t need much product. One pump covers my entire face easily, including eye makeup removal. Even with regular use, the full-size bottle lasts me months, so I feel like the value is actually very good considering how little product is needed each time. The included travel size is another nice bonus. I keep the mini bottle in my travel bag or purse because it’s convenient for trips and prevents me from having to transfer product into another container. It’s small but still lasts quite a while. One more thing worth mentioning is the price. I’ve purchased this from different places over the years, and this listing is usually cheaper than buying directly from the official store. Whenever I see it on sale, I stock up because it’s one of those products I genuinely never want to run out of. Overall, this is one of the most reliable cleansing oils I’ve used. It removes makeup quickly, rinses clean without residue, feels gentle on the skin, and lasts a long time. If you wear makeup regularly, use waterproof products, or simply want a cleansing oil that actually performs the way it promises to, this one is absolutely worth trying.

my holy grail
Scent: Unscented, Size: 6.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
i’ve been repurchasing this for almost 8 years now. hands down this is a holy grail product for me and i have been recommending it to everyone. it takes my makeup off great and it leaves my skin feeling so smooth and soft. its very lightweight and it is very easy to use. i use this for about 10-20 minutes before i use a water based cleanser to take it off. it got rid of little bumbs i have and i genuinely do feel blackheads and dead skin coming off as i use it. this made my skin do a 180 and i will def be using this until the day i die. i love this and recommend it so much.
