Days to Maturity: Annual

Description: The Blood Flower is a milkweed that attracts flocks of butterflies and their larvae. However, it is poisonous and should not be ingested, by people or animals.  Butterflies, specifically Monarchs, are immune to the plant's poison.  In fact the Monarch butterfly loves this plant so much that its larvae make it their home!  Have fun raising baby Monarchs with this funky flower.

Mint2Grow Tip:  Milkweeds tend to be pretty invasive in my frost free area.  They love Florida's swampy soil.  I like to keep them in pots, so my small garden space doesn't become over run by this species.

How To Grow

Sowing:  Direct sow indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. After the last frost, and when the seedlings have grown tall enough to handle safely, transplant them. To direct sow, sow seeds just below the surface of the soil in late fall or
early spring.

Growing:  Milkweed tolerates light shade; it also adapts well to either dry or moist soil. In cooler regions, milkweed can be grown as a container plant and brought indoors for the winter, or grown outdoors as an annual.  Keep in mind that these plants are very slow to mature. They tolerate some dryness, but grow best with the occasional watering. I find they do best being kind of swamped with water once mature.  Self seeding may occur, if you do not remove the seed pods, but volunteer plants can easily be transplanted or removed, while they are still small. Blood Flowers attracts numerous butterflies, specifically the monarch butterfly, and hummingbirds, and resists deer.  Aphids seem to love this plant, but they are quite harmless to it.  This plant can be cut back at anytime of its growth to produce new foliage or to tidy up its growth. Mature plants can be divided.

Harvesting:  Blood Flowers makes a striking cut flower. Cut the stems long, choosing flowers that have just opened. However, keep in mind that all parts of this plant are poisonous, and the milky sap can irritate the skin.  To harvest seeds, remove the pods and spread them out to dry. Split open the pods and take out the silky seed material. Remove the fluff from the seeds, and store the milkweed seeds in a cool, dry place.

**ALL PARTS OF THIS PLANT ARE POISONOUS**

these are very nice platter/plates
these are not quite as thick as I was hoping for, but they’re really nice. I guess I’m just used to using paper plate holders underneath them but if you use two together, they’ll hold just about anything that you can put on them.

Many uses. Economical and functional.
Style: 100-Pk, Size: 6-Inch
Little Paper Plates for Any Occasion! Two feral kitties have adopted me and I feed them twice a day. I needed an easy, economical choice that provides a clean dish for each one. These Hygloss Products Paper Plates are ideal. They’re quite sturdy, uncoated, and exactly what I was looking for—simple and functional. In addition, they’re great for craft projects because they’re uncoated, which means paint, glue, and markers stick to them without any trouble. On the practical side, they are excellent for serving snacks and sandwiches, although they’re not thick or large enough for full-course meals. It’s the best price I have found for paper plates and they arrived quickly. Highly recommend for feeding stray cats, as well as crafting and casual dining!

The Unsung Heroes of Casual Dining
Style: 100-Pk, Size: 6-Inch
Ah, paper plates, the unsung heroes of casual dining! Whether it's a mountain of greasy burgers or a messy pile of coleslaw, these humble discs of pressed paper pulp stand firm—well, maybe more like a wobbly dance, teetering on the brink of collapse but never quite giving up. They bend, they buckle, but they rarely break. And let's not forget their efficiency: soaking up liquids and grease might seem like a flaw, but who needs napkins when your plate does double duty? Wallet-friendly and hassle-free, paper plates are the champions of cheap dining. For the cost of a latte, you can arm yourself with a stack of plates ready for any impromptu feast. Cleanup is a breeze—just toss the evidence away. In short, paper plates might not be the fanciest dining ware, but they are the unsung champions of convenience. Here's to you, paper plates! May your legacy of casual dining excellence continue for generations to come.

Plates for our anniversary.
Style: 100-Pk, Size: 6-Inch
I needed plates for my anniversary and came across these plates. They were smaller than I expected but they worked out perfectly for us. They are strong and easy to use. They didn't leak or ripped at all. So that's a plus. Great price for the quantity that I received. Definitely recommend them.
