{HISTORY}

In 1975, you didn't have to live in a house with a big yard for a big garden in order to enjoy the rewarding benefits of playing around in the dirt. Indoor gardening was on the rise in the 1970's thanks to a keen awareness that greenspace was slowly vanishing as urbanization was quickly taking over the landscape. But as award-winning teacher, lecturer and author, Russell Mott, is first to tell you in this gorgeous book, trees and flowers are an integral part of the human spirit dating all the way back to the beginning of mankind. Our thirst and lust and attraction for nature never needs to be squashed or cast aside or undermined on account of where we live or how we live. When no natural outdoor greenspace is available, you can turn your living area into an indoor garden that is just as fulfilling and exotic and captivating as any outdoor patch, thanks to the diverse beauty of house plants.

An artistic collaboration between a revered Cornell University horticulturist and seven of the 1970s most talented nature artists, the Total Book of House Plants includes over 350 different types of flowers, plants, ferns, fruits, bulbs and cacti that can be grown successfully indoors with proper care and attention.

Enhanced with vibrant watercolor illustrations on each page depicting every plant, this book is an absolute gem for anyone who does not have immediate access to an outdoor garden but carries a passionate desire to grow things. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love it so much because it has a big chapter on fruit-bearing plants that expertly describes how to grow pineapples, oranges, pomegranates, lemons, avocados, coffee, fig and banana trees - a veritable fruitopia - all inside!

Each entry contains fun-fact type background information along with details on planting, potting, room temperature, pests, light, moisture, propagation and pruning. And because Richard wanted readers to be totally successful in their planting endeavors he often includes a bonus remarks section for any particular helpful hints, tips or techniques that will keep your specimen looking healthy and happy year-round.

All aspects of the planting process are discussed here from containers to soil, equipment to space size. Familiar varieties of house plants mingle inbetween more alluring and exotic plants with wonderful names like Fishtail Ferns, Magic Flowers, Maidenhair, Umbrella Trees, Mind-Your-Own Business and Kangaroo Vines.

A Toy Ball for All Seasons!
Style: Small Ball, Size: 1 Count, Style: Small Ball, Size: 1 Count
Oh my gosh! I’m so happy to find the almost exact ball my 5 1/2 pound 9 month old Morkie, Charlie, that mommy lost at the campgrounds! It was his favorite toy and although he has others, he loved this one above all others, so to find another one was an answer to my prayers. The difference is so minor and in a good way. It is very durable as Charlie has very sharp teeth, but this one is just a bit softer making it easier to hang on to playing fetch. But for Charlie, the size is the same, the squeekiness is the same, the color is the same (yes they can see some colors) and he went into a jumping frenzy when I took it out of the package and the price was unbelievably inexpensive for such a high quality toy! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Good mommy! ( I’m ordering another one as a back up, jic!)

Great investment.
Style: Small Ball, Size: 2 Count
Dogs love them. Durable. Chew worthy for a beagle and a German shepherd. You cannot smell the flavor imparted but the pups definitely can. Always purchase the amount you need so each dog can have one. .

Bacon and a Ball? Can life get any better?
Style: Small Ball, Size: 3 Count
Come on.. these balls are the best. They smell like bacon, yes, they really do. They are durable and squeak. Upon aggressive play, the squeak will die out but the ball will still be useable.

She LOVES this ball
Style: Small Ball, Size: 1 Count
Our dog likes toys, but this ball is now her favorite ball. She even took it to bed with her last night. Our dog is 65 pounds, but she likes smaller toys so I ordered the small ball. It’s a good size. It’s nice and soft and squeaks. She seems to kills the squeaker right away, but she didn’t with this ball. It seems to be the least amount of money I’ve spent on a toy for her and it’s her favorite. I ordered another one just to have on hand. This toy is a great bargain!

Not Durable Enough for a Dachshund to be Left Alone With (Updated)
Style: Small Ball, Size: 3 Count
I just received these balls today and got one out for my daughter's Dachshund. She loved it for about 15 minutes and then gnawed a huge chunk out of it. It was in the garbage within 20 minutes of receiving it. I'm not even going to give her the other ones. We had an issue once before where she was chewing on her Kong and swallowed some pieces. It messed up her digestion for quite a while. Not taking the chance with these balls. Too bad because they have nice bounce and good squeak. She was thrilled with it until we saw that she ruined it and we quickly took it away from her. If you have a Dachshund or other aggressive chewer, I'd look for something else. UPDATE - I've bumped up the rating by 2 stars, changed the review title, and ordered another set. We found that we can't leave the dog alone with the ball, but if we use it to play with her, we can monitor when she starts to aggressively gnaw at it. So now, it's more of a fetch ball and we've taught her how to stop gnawing it and drop it for another chase. They still give in to her sharp little teeth more easily than other toys, but she really loves them and gets so excited when we get one out. It's easily her favorite toy, and who doesn't want to see their pup happy?! It's definitely not a chew toy, but it's been great as a fetch ball. If you go into it with that understanding, you and your pup will both be happier with the product.
