PHYLLOSTACHYS PUBESCENS
The species that produces the largest and fastest stems is phyllostachys pubescens also called Moso bamboo or giant bamboo. These are large bamboos (Moso bamboo in English), which quickly develop stems that can exceed 20 meters in height and a diameter of 10/15 cm in 5 years.
Bamboo does not fear the cold, they are plants native to Asia and in particular China, Japan, Korea and can withstand even very harsh winter climates, up to -15°C.
This type of plantation begins to bear fruit four or five years after the planting of mother plants, and the positive factor is that the crops will remain productive for decades. Among the various advantages that Moso bamboo has is that it does not require any treatment with pesticides as it is immune to parasites, and does not require great work and means for its development. The most important work is the collection of shoots and stems.
It is estimated that one hectare of MOSO BAMBOO (from 400/800 mother plants in place), once fully mature, can produce approximately 10 tons.
The sprouts
Bamboo shoots can weigh up to 500 gr. and are a rare and delicious food, rich in minerals and vitamins, appreciated by Eastern and Western cuisine; from the leaves you can obtain particular alcoholic drinks, as well as essential oils and creams that are highly sought after in the cosmetics sector.
