  2. The thick, waxy leaves store moisture, allowing the plant to withstand short periods of drought. This makes it a low-maintenance choice for those who may occasionally forget to water.
  3. It helps to remove toxins such as formaldehyde, thereby improving indoor air quality.
  4. Unlike many philodendrons that trail or climb, ‘Green Princess’ grows in a compact, upright shape, making it ideal for small spaces without the need for support or pruning.

The Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ is a stunning, and beloved evergreen-perennial known for its glossy, deep-green foliage and easy-care nature. This tropical plant is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts due to its adaptability and resilience. Unlike vining philodendrons, ‘Green Princess’ has a more upright, bushy growth habit, making it ideal for indoor spaces where a structured, lush appearance is desired.

Like most philodendrons, ‘Green Princess’ originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Due to its popularity as a houseplant, it is now widely cultivated in greenhouses and nurseries worldwide.

One of the most striking features of the ‘Green Princess’ Philodendron is its lush, deep-green foliage.

The leaves are smooth, slightly elongated, and have a glossy finish, which enhances their vibrant appearance.

Unlike climbing philodendrons, this variety remains compact and bushy, making it perfect for tabletops, shelves, and small indoor spaces.

The plant is also known for being low-maintenance, tolerating lower light conditions, and requiring minimal care compared to other tropical houseplants.

When grown indoors, this ‘Green Princess’ plant typically grows up to 10 inches tall and spreads about 10 inches wide.

Its slow-growing nature makes it easy to manage, and with occasional pruning, it can maintain a tidy, bushy form. While it can grow larger under optimal conditions, it remains significantly smaller than climbing philodendron varieties.

The flowers of Green Princess Philodendron bloom in spring and summer. The flowers have white petal-like structures called spathes, with a green center (spadix). While this plant is mainly grown for its leaves, these rare flowers can add a nice touch of color to your home.

The Philodendron Green Princess is a compact and versatile plant, making it perfect for small spaces and a variety of indoor settings. This natural air purifier helps trap dust and improve air quality, while also requiring minimal care, making it ideal for beginners. With its mood-boosting greens, the Philodendron Green Princess adds vitality and a soothing presence to your home, creating a welcoming and refreshing atmosphere.

When and How to Water Your Philodendron Green Princess

Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ is a drought-tolerant plant that can withstand periods of dryness, making it an excellent choice for plant owners who may occasionally forget to water. The plant’s thick, glossy leaves help retain moisture, allowing it to survive short dry spells. To ensure proper hydration, always check the soil’s moisture level before watering—water only when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry.

In the spring and summer, during the active growing season, the ‘Green Princess’ Philodendron requires more frequent watering to support its lush foliage and steady growth. Typically, watering once every 7 to 10 days is sufficient, but this may vary based on climate and indoor conditions. If grown outdoors, more frequent watering may be necessary during extreme heat. To promote even growth, use lukewarm water and ensure proper drainage.

In the fall and winter months, the plant enters a semi-dormant stage, requiring significantly less water. Reduce watering frequency to once every 2 to 3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry out more between waterings. Lower temperatures and reduced light exposure slow down growth, minimizing the plant’s water needs. However, ensure the air is not too dry by maintaining adequate humidity.

Light Requirements – Where to Place Your Green Princess Philodendron

When growing indoors as a houseplant, this philodendron thrives in bright, indirect light.

Place it near a north or east-facing window where it receives gentle morning sunlight without direct exposure to harsh afternoon rays.

If natural light is insufficient, supplement with a grow light for at least 10-12 hours daily to maintain healthy growth.

Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as excessive light can scorch the leaves.

For outdoor cultivation, it should be placed in a shaded or partially shaded area, as direct sunlight can cause leaf burns.

Ideally, it should receive 3-5 hours of morning sunlight followed by dappled shade throughout the day. In warm climates, growing it under a tree canopy or a covered patio ensures it receives the right balance of light without stress from intense sun exposure. Whether indoors or outdoors, rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even light distribution and balanced growth.

Optimal Soil and Fertilizer Needs

Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ thrives in a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil mix. Your soil must have a sandy texture and a low water-holding capacity, just like desert soil.  Soggy wet soil can damage your green princess Philodendron and contribute to bacterial and fungal rot. Ideally, you want to use our specialized potting mix, opens in a new tab that contains 5 natural substrates and organic mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your Philodendron to thrive.

For best results, fertilize the plant once a year in the spring using a balanced liquid NPK fertilizer with a ratio of 5-10-5. This promotes lush foliage and steady growth. Avoid over-fertilization, as excessive nutrients can lead to salt buildup and damage the roots.

Hardiness Zones & More

When growing indoors as a houseplant, Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F with humidity levels above 50%. Keeping it in a humid environment, such as a bathroom or kitchen, is ideal. If the air is too dry, use a humidifier or pebble tray to maintain moisture levels. Additionally, ensure the plant receives adequate indirect light for at least 10-12 hours daily.

In the United States, this is mostly an indoor plant, but if you live in southern Florida or Hawaii then you can cultivate it outdoors in USDA zones 9-11.

It can tolerate temperatures down to 50°F but should be protected from cold drafts and frost.

If grown in a container, bring it indoors when temperatures drop.

It thrives in moderate to high humidity and should be placed in a shaded area with 3-5 hours of morning sunlight.

Wildlife - Philodendron Attracts the Following Friendly Pollinators

Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ produces unique flowers that can attract pollinators such as beetles, flies, and other small insects. Although it is primarily grown for its foliage, its infrequent blooms add an extra dimension to its appeal.

According to the ASPCA, Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ is mildly toxic to humans and pets due to the presence of calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation if ingested in a large amount. However, it is safe to touch and handle, making it a popular choice for indoor houseplants.

How to Propagate Your Philodendron Green Princess

You can propagate your plant through stem cuttings. Choose a healthy stem with at least two nodes and cut it with sterile pruning shears. Allow the cutting to dry for a few hours before placing it in water or moist soil. If you propagate in water, change the water every 3-5 days to prevent bacterial growth. Roots should develop within 2-4 weeks, after which the cutting can be transferred to soil.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the Philodendron ‘Green Princess’ is a beautiful, low-maintenance houseplant that brings a touch of tropical elegance to any indoor space. Its lush, glossy foliage, compact growth, and resilience make it a favorite among plant lovers. Whether placed on a shelf, desk, or in a decorative pot, this philodendron adds a refreshing green presence with minimal effort. With the right care—moderate watering, indirect light, and occasional pruning—it will remain a vibrant and attractive feature in any home or office.

Great tool, well worth the money!
I'm thrilled and pleased with the Worx edger. I bought it because it's electric, cheaper than other styles and I don't have to fool with a 2 stroke engine. I bought Worx, because it has a good guide to help me keep the blade away from the sidewalk, as well as a white mark on the housing to give a general idea of where the blade was. Also I thought it seemed to have a good engine. Now I'm sure it has a good engine. I looked at 3 other comparable trimmers, and because of the guide and engine, chose Worx. I read the 1 star reviews, many of the 5 star reviews and in between, as well as all the specifications I could. One of the competitors was attractive to me, but the 1 stars indicated there was a small tendency for the engine to quit. There were many less reviews for most of the models and many for that one, but I chose this one for the same amperage of engine, but less HP, which might, in my mind, over-work the engine which would account for it being ruined. One had a better warranty, but Amazon offered 2 more years for about $750, so I upgraded the warranty to 4 years,I have Tall Fescue grass in sandy loam soil in SE Wyo because of drought resistance, and it's a Northern grass). The grass is taller and tough as well as more in clumps. The ground probably is much easier to work than clay. The edger handled the tall grass ok, with all the clippings which had accumulated. I It was a long hard job to do the first trimming, and I was impressed with the 'Worx. I tried not to work it harder than necessary but it took more than 5 or 6 hours of work. I used the blade down almost to the long hole marker and had parts of 2 teeth left. It worked well; didn't clog; had power. Didn't ruin the engine. Didn't work me hard! I had to tighten the blade after about 10 feet, but only that once. In one area I had to run it on the wrong side, with the wheels on the grass. It worked ok, but worked much better where it was possible to put the wheels on the cement, and thus use the guide! It would be nice to be able to move the handle and the guide to the other side instead of the way I did it. The cord holder worked poorly for a 3 wire 12 gauge extension cord, but worked fine when I got out the smaller 14 g. The metal trimmer guide that helps hold the blade away from the side walk pulls up for use of the edger as a trencher. My lawn looks terrific. The blades were MUCH more expensive than the B & D; so before I bought Worx, I searched the internet and found an electric company which had a 3 pack of original equipment blades for it for $28, and on sale for $22. I scored on the tool, and on the blades! PTL!!

Great but could be Epic
If you’re looking for a solid edger for sidewalks and driveways, this is a great tool. It’s powerful, well-built, easy to assemble, and simple to use. For edging, I would definitely recommend it. However, I wouldn’t recommend it as a true trencher. I bought it for both purposes but mainly needed it for trenching. The maximum cutting depth is only about 1.5 inches, which isn’t deep enough for most garden borders or running cable. In my opinion, a real trencher should be able to reach at least 3 inches deep. The limitation comes down to the blade size and guard design. WORX could improve this model with a larger blade guard and additional wheel depth settings. If they released a version capable of 3–3.25 inch trenching depth, it would really stand out in the market. Overall, it’s an excellent edger, just not a true trencher.

Works Great!
Much quieter than I was expecting. Lawn had needed this for years, I regained 6"-10" of driveway/sidewalk back. Makes the rest of the neighborhood look bad LOL Only the cleaning up wore me out, but it should be much easier next time.

Gets the job done for a small lawn
Color: 15-Inch
I have a smaller yard, and this works GREAT!!! I have used it several times now. I do not use the bag because my municipality doesn't pick up yard clippings more than once a year. I mow every 7 to 10 days on a middle setting. The only thing that I can complain about is that it doesn't work well if pulling it in reverse. It still cuts fine, but the rubber flap that keeps the grass from flying back at you is a bit long if you want to be able to pull the mower. It can be removed easily if you choose to, but I would at least recommend wearing eye protection if you take it off since it is there for a reason. It maneuvers easily and gets very close to the edges, so I have not had to weed whack at all! It is a light mower and easy to use. Basic maintenance like keeping it covered or in a dry spot when not in use and flipping it to the side to clean the debris from under it after use, and you should have a good mower for a long time. That being said... I DID get the 3-year warranty on it. I know from a past experience with a different company that electric corded mowers are VERY hard to get serviced, so if anything goes wrong, you basically have to replace it. At least this way, my investment will be guaranteed to last several years.

Worth trying if you want to have fun mowing
Color: 19-Inch-Black
I had already purchased the cute 13” mower from this company and wanted extra batteries. I could have purchased just the batteries and double charger, but it mad more sense to spend a few more dollars and get this larger mower with a side chute so that I could have both types and sizes. The smaller one has a basket, but not a side chute. They’re both incredibly lightweight and easy to use. This one weighs under thirty pounds. It’s box was inside a larger Amazon shipping box which made it harder to get through my front door. I foolishly tried pulling it in, but it kept catching on the storm door. It would have been much easier to simply go around from the back of the house and push it in through the front door so that I could hold the storm door open. Lesson learned. I was able to lift the actual box for the mower. It has push in handles. Carefully lifting the mower out of the box was also fairly easy. And assembly just requires pulling the handles into position and tightening them. I decided to adjust the handle length so it was more comfortable. That might require a helper to hold it if a helper is available. I had to use my legs to hold it in place while I removed the bolts and reinserted them for the new handle length. The height needs to be adjusted so that you can easily move it because it’s set low for shipping. That’s simple with the handle designed for height adjustment. The little key has two prongs which need to be inserted all the way so it works properly. It makes a little clicking sound as it goes into place. The batteries might need to be used and recharged a few times before you can get an idea of how long they’ll last between charges. It’s not reasonable to assume that anyone can mow a large yard in thirty or forty minutes, especially by hand. My yard is around half an acre and it takes hours to mow it by hand with a self-propelled gas mower. A battery powered push mower isn’t going to go faster than a self propelled mower. You’ll be able to mow as much as you can mow before the batteries need to be changed or recharged. If you’re a senior woman like me with chronic medical conditions that cause pain and weakness, chances are that you don’t really want to mow more than thirty or forty minutes without a break anyway. And not having to wrestle with a heavy gas mower is a huge relief. Pushing this mower is like pushing a vacuum. It’s easy to move forward and easy to pull back toward you. Trying to pull a heavy self-propelled gas mower backwards is very difficult and painful for people in my situation. I have lots of bushes and other obstacles to mow around and I get exhausted trying to use my gas mower for this. When I used this nice, lightweight cordless mower, I didn’t get tired at all. I wanted to do a good comparison, so I used this one between two sessions of using the heavy gas mower. With the gas mower, I could only mow for around fifteen minutes before I started to feel like I might collapse. With this mower, I moved over thirty minutes and I actually started to wear out before the batteries did, but I was able to keep mowing until the batteries stopped without feeling like I might collapse any minute. I was able to do housework before and after mowing with this mower. Walking quickly, I mowed around 1/6 of an acre on one charge. Cleaning it is a breeze. Just position it on its side and use a brush with a long enough handle to protect your hands and arms from the blade. You can use a leaf blower on it before and after brushing grass loose, too, if one is handy. And you can put a damp cloth around the brush if you want to wash the residue off. It will probably work best with the side chute in place, but it might handle totally dry grass without the side chute if the grass isn’t terribly long. For a cordless mower under $200, this is a great bargain that could make yard work much less difficult. They have a 16” size with a grass collection bag or basket if you don’t like the side chute style. I have a cordless Craftsman mower with more powerful batteries that’s heavier and much more expensive. I can’t lift that one without hurting myself. This brand was recommended in many online articles as a good, lightweight mower for seniors and people with health conditions. After using it, I can see why. Buying extra batteries is a good idea, but I like having the two different sizes of mowers with batteries that can be shared. I can use this one for mowing and the 13” size for trimming if I prefer to do that. I can’t usually mow the front and back on the same day anymore, so I don’t mind mowing the yard in stages. People can’t see my backyard unless they’re trespassing because it’s surrounded by a fence, so it’s not a problem if it takes two or three days to finish my yard work. And it’s good exercise being able to mow by hand for half an hour at a time. Using this mower isn’t traumatic or painful. And it’s quiet enough to let me hear the birds singing while I mow. I have to wear layers of masks outdoors to avoid serious reactions to certain pollutants, and this mower doesn’t make me out of breath like wrestling with my heavy mower does. This one looks more like a fun mower. The 13” one looks like a fun toy and it’s also fun to use. They will both make my yard work more pleasant. I’ll have to continue using my heavy gas mowers for areas with too many sticks and walnuts dropping from neighbors’ trees, but I’ll use the fun, lightweight ones whenever possible. Using them doesn’t feel like working. They feel like just having fun outdoors. And they can be stored indoors if necessary, especially over the winter. You can’t treat them roughly or you’ll break them. They don’t need rough treatment. They’re designed so that people with weak hands can also use them safely and comfortably. People with health conditions can understand this. Men who want heavy duty tools cannot and they would be better off spending the extra money on heavy duty tools. Seniors and women who are tired of getting hurt while trying to mow the grass will probably be grateful for this mower. I certainly am. And when it eventually breaks, I’ll buy another one. It’s much cheaper than having to pay someone else to do a crummy job mowing my lawn.
