Alocasia 'Jacklyn'

Alocasia 'Jacklyn' is a cultivated form of Alocasia tandurusa, a Sulawesi species with deeply divided leaves and a textured surface. Each blade is cut into long lobes, creating an antler-like outline above the pot.

The plant grows from a rhizomatous base and carries its leaves on upright, patterned petioles. Mature foliage can show dark veins, a lightly fuzzy surface and a strong divided outline.

Antler-shaped tandurusa foliage

  • Cultivated form of Alocasia tandurusa.
  • Deeply lobed, antler-like leaves.
  • Textured leaf surface with visible dark venation.
  • Patterned petioles on developed growth.
  • Terrestrial rhizomatous habit with corm and offset production.

Patterned leaves and textured petioles

Alocasia tandurusa is native to northern Sulawesi and associated with wet lower montane forest. Long, divided lobes create the deer-antler outline reflected in the species name.

Indoors, Alocasia 'Jacklyn' needs warmth, a bright position with softened light and an airy substrate that keeps moisture available around the roots. The divided leaves are most delicate while unfurling, so stable humidity and regular pest checks matter during active growth.

Warm roots behind Jacklyn growth

  • Light: A bright position away from harsh sun helps petioles stay firm and leaves size up evenly. A dim position can lead to weaker growth.
  • Water: Keep the substrate lightly moist while the plant is actively growing. Water again once the upper layer has started to dry.
  • Substrate: An airy, moisture-buffered aroid mix suits the rhizome. Bark, coco chips, pumice, lava and perlite help keep oxygen around the roots.
  • Humidity: A humid growing setup, ideally around 60% or higher, helps new leaves unfurl cleanly when paired with airflow.
  • Temperature: Growth is steadiest around 20–28 °C. Keep the pot away from cold glass, cold floors and draughts.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly through the growing season. Reduce feeding when the plant is resting or producing fewer leaves.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot or the plant becomes unstable. Keep the rhizome firm and close to the substrate surface.
  • Propagation: Corms, offsets or careful rhizome divisions can be grown on once young plants have active roots.

Growth checks on cut leaves

  • New leaves tearing or sticking: Check humidity, root moisture and pest activity while the leaf is expanding.
  • Drooping petioles: Check dryness, root rot and temperature because damaged roots cannot supply enough water to the leaves.
  • Yellow lower leaves: One older leaf may retire as a new leaf grows; repeated yellowing points to watering, temperature or root stress.
  • Fine speckling or webbing: Inspect the textured leaves, undersides and petiole bases for spider mites.

Handling textured petioles

Alocasia 'Jacklyn' contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. Place it away from pets and children, and clean your hands after handling cut tissue.

Tandurusa behind Jacklyn

Alocasia is part of Araceae. The epithet tandurusa is derived from Indonesian tanduk rusa, meaning deer antlers, and refers to the deeply lobed leaf blades.

Bouncy, not hard, and good value.
Style: Fetch Balls (Pack of 10), Size: 2.5 inch
Great balls for the ball launcher and not rockhard like some of the solid rubber balls. These have great bounce, and because of the two holes, they make a fun whistling noise as they fly through the air. My dogs love them and they are a good value. By the way, if you throw them too hard, they will go through chain-link and no climb fence because they squish a bit!

Excellent dog balls — safe design and very durable
Style: Fetch Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
These fetch balls from Amazon Basics are fantastic, and my dog absolutely loves them. One of the biggest reasons I prefer these over other brands is the hole that runs through the center of the ball. This is a very important safety feature: if a dog were to accidentally get the ball stuck in the back of the throat, the hole allows air to pass through. That small detail could literally make a life-saving difference. Aside from the safety benefit, they bounce well, are easy to clean, and hold up to a lot of playtime. They’re firm but not rock-hard, and my dog goes crazy for them. Great value, great quality, and a thoughtful design. Highly recommended for dog owners who want a safer alternative to standard solid rubber balls.

Great ball for heavy chewers
Style: Assorted Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
Great toy for my Doberman. She chews through tennis balls in about 15 minutes but these are very durable. She likes to chase them but also just chew on them.

My dog loves glowing fetch at night!
Style: Glow Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
Fantastic. Sturdy. My dog loves them Glow in the dark is great for fetch at night. I keep a flashlight with me because the glow doesn't last really long. But they charge very quickly and are really bright.
