Germination
Germinating Rosa chinensis seeds can be a rewarding process. Scarify the seeds to break their dormancy. You can achieve this by gently nicking the seed coat with a file or sandpaper, imitating the natural wear and tear that might occur in the wild. Soak the scarified seeds in water for 24 hours to soften the seed coat. Next, plant the seeds in a well-draining potting mix, typically a blend of peat moss and sand, and sow them at a shallow depth, about 1/4 inch. Water the soil thoroughly and place the container in a sunny location with indirect sunlight. The seeds may take several weeks to several months to germinate. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, you can transplant them into your garden or chosen location, where they will grow into these lovely Arkansas rose shrubs, gracing your landscape with their beautiful pink blooms and providing sustenance for local wildlife.
