guayabera dress shirts Guayabera Shirt SSThe Guayabera Shirt SS in Chambray carries one of the more human origin stories in the history of the men's shirt. The guayabera's roots are divided between the Philippines and Cuba, but the Cuban version is the one that stays with you. The Guayabera Shirt SS in Chambray carries one of the more human origin stories in the history of the men's shirt. The guayabera's roots are divided between the Philippines and Cuba, but the Cuban version is the one that stays with you. A countryside seamstress sewing large patch pockets onto her husband's shirts so he could carry guava from the field. A Spanish immigrant arriving in Sancti Spiritus in 1709 asking his wife for a long-sleeved shirt with four large pockets to carry his cigars and belongings while he worked. A name possibly drawn from Yayabero, the word for those who lived along the Yayabo River. Whatever the true origin, the shirt that emerged from that Cuban countryside became one of the most enduring garments in the history of warm-weather dressing, a shirt built around utility that became, over time, the uniform of dignity across the Caribbean.

The four patch pockets are the definition of this shirt, set in two vertical rows running down the front, exactly as the original demanded. They sit flush and proportioned, sewn to carry and built to last in a shirt that was always meant to be worked in. The rounded hem finishes the silhouette cleanly, following the relaxed boxy cut that gives the guayabera its ease through the chest and body. French seams close every seam throughout, leaving a clean interior finish with no raw edges, the kind of construction detail that does not announce itself but makes itself known the longer you own the shirt. Chambray gives the piece its weight and hand, substantial enough to hold its shape through a summer of regular wear.

This run was accidently produced in size small only, and each shirt carries two additional inches in the body length beyond the standard pattern, a variation that affects the drape and the way the shirt sits over the waist. For this reason we have it at a special price.

There will not be another run of this shirt.

Toddler approved!
Format: Board book
My 2 year old loves this book! The pictures are beautiful, he's learned the names of all of the bugs, and it's a nice small size that's easy to read using one hand with my toddler in my lap before bedtime. I bought this when he was around 18 months old and it is still a hit.

Great book!
Format: Board book
I really like this book it includes: ladybug, bumblebee, praying mantis, firefly and (monarch) butterfly. So a good selection of bugs a small child is likely to experience in their yard or park in North America. For the photo board book aged children I really prefer that they discuss vocabulary that the child will be able to use to describe the world around them so I appreciate that most kids will see most of these bugs fairly easily and frequently. I did question the praying mantis since I see them much less frequently than the other bugs in the book but my husband said it is an exciting bug when kids do see it so he supports the choice--I think a fly or mosquito might have been a somewhat more useful choice as far as vocabulary our son could use most often. I liked that they did say the butterfly was a monarch but typically used butterfly so if a child lives where other butterflies are more common they learned the more general term. I think fireflies are less common in some regions but they are so magical as a small child that I think it is a good choice.

Sturdy enough for 19 month old. He loved learning about the insects and looking for them outside. I love the real pictures and facts.
