Chanel is known to be one of the most luxurious fashion houses in the world. This magnificent and well-documented metallic gold lamé and black silk strapless gown, dating back to Karl Lagerfeld's iconic 1985 fall-winter runway collection, is a perfect example of why this couture brand has stood the test of time. Though prolific designer Karl Lagerfeld sadly passed away in 2019, he left behind such an impressive legacy! From his start in fashion as Pierre Balmain's assistant back in 1955, to the astounding impact he made after taking over Chanel in 1983, Lagerfeld's varied career has encompassed so many highlights. When he became creative director of Chanel he didn't abandon Chanel's vision for his own but instead Karl Lagerfeld considered himself the 'channeler' of Coco. As such, he would reinterpret and rejuvenate the iconic designs of Coco Chanel, inserting ready-to-wear into popular culture and restoring haute couture to its former glory. Not only is this intricate gown a museum quality treasure, it's such a stunning look as well. The fabrics used to create this garment are glorious; the bodice is fashioned in opulent silk velvet while the skirting is pleated light-weight silk for amazing movement. The most incredible detail on this dress is the bold sparkling beaded and sequin gold lamé logo top trim. This workmanship is truly breathtaking and must have taken days to complete. The bodice has an inner fully-boned corset for perfect fit and nips in at the waist. So figure flattering! The pleated skirting gives the gown beautiful depth and movement. We added many pictures so you could appreciate this work of art. A truly timeless, instantly recognizable Chanel look that will become a forever favorite in your collection.

Find Out Who Was the Legal Secretary
Format: Hardcover
I ordered this book after watching Nuremberg with Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe because I wanted to find out who was the woman accompanying Justice Jackson to Germany. Yes, that was not his wife, it was his legal secretary, Elsie Douglas. This book is the only source I could find that goes into any detail about their relationship. What it provides is nowhere near salacious, because it is evident that Jackson took his secrets to the grave. What details it does provide about the evident love triangle that existed in Jackson's life for many years is quite sufficient to explain the events of Nuremberg.

Well written. Factual sloppiness.
Format: Hardcover
Good insight into Jackson’s approach to the law. Thoroughly researched. Well written. However, Professor White made two egregious factual errors, both of which are an indication of sloppiness on his part, as well as that of his editors and peer reviewers. First, he refers to the World War 2 Chief of Naval Operations as the Secretary of the Navy. Second he states that Los Alamos National Laboratory is in California.

Judging Jackson
Format: Hardcover
Readers interested in FDR's era, the post-war Nuremberg Trial, and/or such important U.S. Supreme Court events as the Rosenberg spy case and Brown v. Board of Education will enjoy this well-researched book. Illuminating insights as to the characters of his fellow members of the High Court, especially Justices Black and Douglas, are also present. Of special interest in today's world is Justice Jackson's thinking on the limits of Executive Power in terms of war powers and foreign relations. I do think non-lawyers will be less interested when the author, a legal scholar, sometime goes into depth exploring aspects of Justice Jackson's thoughts on opaque technical areas, such as diversity jurisdiction under the constitution. And, I fail to see the need to spend much time on Justice Black's two children, as is done in chapter two "Family Matters." Why do I need to know that his daughter was a mediocre student in college or details about her early love life? Professor White clearly admires Robert H. Jackson as a fine advocate, brilliant writer, and independent judge, while noting some of his flaws. All in all, a good biography of an important American.
