Instead of driving back down I 10, we decided to take the long way home to Houston. Our mom was a Texas History teacher so she knew that off the beaten path was where you find the good stories. We turned right in Van Horn and followed Hwy 90 to Marfa then turned right again and headed to Presidio, Lajitas, and Terlingua. We drove through Big Bend

We drove through Big Bend National Park and ended the day in Marathon at the Gage Hotel.
The terrain was like nothing we had ever experienced. So many different types of cactuses from Ocotillos to Prickly Pears. We were in awe of the raw beauty and the unspoiled nature of this part of Texas that would call us back many times.
