Ethiopian traditional dress, also known as the Ethiopian kemis or habesha dress, holds a significant place in the country's rich cultural heritage. This vibrant attire showcases the diversity and beauty of Ethiopian fashion, with each region having its unique style and variations. One such distinctive style is the Oromo dress, which adds further depth to this already captivating traditional attire.

The Ethiopian dress is a visually striking ensemble that reflects the country's deep-rooted traditions and values. It is typically made from handwoven fabric, showcasing intricate patterns and vibrant colors that symbolize various aspects of Ethiopian culture. The fabric used for the dress is often made from cotton or silk, ensuring both comfort and elegance.

The habesha dress, commonly worn by Ethiopian women, consists of a long, flowing gown that reaches the ankles. It is characterized by its loose-fitting nature, allowing for ease of movement while exuding gracefulness. The dress is often accompanied by a shawl or scarf called a netela, which is draped over the shoulders or head, adding an extra touch of elegance to the overall look.

The Ethiopian kemis is adorned with beautiful embroidery, which showcases the craftsmanship and artistic skills of local artisans. These intricate designs are typically inspired by nature, incorporating motifs such as flowers, animals, or geometric patterns. The embroidery is meticulously done by hand, resulting in a stunning display of artistry that elevates the dress to a true work of wearable art.

The Ethiopian traditional dress, whether it be the habesha dress or the Oromo dress, serves as more than just a garment. It is a symbol of pride, identity, and cultural heritage. Wearing this attire allows Ethiopians to connect with their roots, celebrating their traditions and expressing their individuality. The Ethiopian dress is not merely a fashion statement; it is a testament to the country's rich history and the enduring beauty of its people.

Another good Benchmark Atlas
Format: Spiral-bound
We camp frequently and own all of the Benchmark Atlases. Although, this is different due to Canadian laws, we are excited to try it out! Very detailed with information, such as small campgrounds and identifying land ownership (Forest services or BLM)

Memories of the Camino
Format: Paperback
First off, I have to say that my husband and I know Angela, the author. We met her because she is a neighbor of my sister, living in Hawaii. We discovered that she planned to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela the same year we were (2016) ! On a visit to Hawaii, we met with Angela and did a little local hike together. She was so enthusiastic and had prepared well. We, too, had been reading up and watching videos, getting suggestions as to what to bring, how to deal with physical issues and weather, what to pack and what not to pack, etc. Still, for anyone doing the Camino - whether the WHOLE 500 miles or doing the required 100 km to get the certificate at the final destination: Santiago de Compostela, Spain - it is a very personal endeavor. Reading Angela Leslee's book gives you the personal story of her "camino," and it is captivating. The changes that take place in her life - the discoveries she makes, the people she meets, the failures she feels, the fears, the habits that get broken (such as food choices!) - all make for an adventure that is life-changing and an interesting read. For anyone considering this pilgrimage, because that's what it is, this book will inspire you. You don't need to be part of a "group." You don't need a lot of plans. You do need to be prepared to be changed. The memory for myself and my husband is that it is the best shared experience we have had together in our 50 years of marriage! Angela's book brought back so many wonderful memories for us. I highly recommend this book.

Feeling Inspired!
Format: Paperback
Reading "The Way of Love" has inspired and encouraged me as I plan for my first (solo) Camino. I thank Angela Leslee for being unafraid to bare all the emotions in her book: the joys, victories, setbacks, disappointments, and pain. It's evident that "The Way of Love" was a labor of love as page after page recounts the 500 miles she walked! I told the author in an email that, in September, when I walk my Camino, I'll be sure to be up and out on the trail "...before sunrise when the yellow street lights cast their magical glow." Can't wait to experience that! "The Way of Love" -- easy to read and enjoy.

the good, the bad, the funny, the reality
Format: Kindle
A great memoir of an “older” woman walking the Camino de Santiago alone. Alone but with many friendships along the way.
