This dress was designed by Don Loper who worked in the film industry during the golden days of Hollywood and was known for his decadent gowns and glamorous approach to dressing. From the front the dress is a cut with simplicity in mind. The silk is a soft navy color and it is cut to skim over the bodice and cinch in at the waist. This tops a gently flared skirt to just past the knee. Each sleeve is made of a ruched and gathered blue silk chiffon that sits on either side of the wide cut neck. It is these wonderful little sleeves that give you a hint of what is to come once you turn around. Once you turn to the back, the impact of it almost takes your breathe away. The back is made up of panels of silk chiffon that drape down the back and are gathered at the top of neck and again at the waist. Between these two anchors the silk floats and drapes. The top portion of the draping has a silk ribbon running through that allows you to gather in the silk for the perfect fit and adds a pretty and feminine touch. When you move the silk panels that extends down and over the skirt floats behind you. It is a touch too big on my mannequin and on the right sized girl will fall in place even better. It is really a work of art and I love it. Excellent condition with one small note below to review.

The bodice is interlined with a blue silk organza and the skirt lined in a burgundy silky rayon. It closes at the back with a painted metal zipper. A tie runs through the back neckline so you can bring in the overall width of the neckline a bit. There is a touch of shininess around the waistline at the front from being over-pressed at some point. This is very minor but mentioned for accuracy.

Shoulders: no true defined seam
Bust: 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 21" flat across from side seam to side seam

Skirt: 31" from waist to hem

I was happy to discover Merwin's poetry.
Format: Paperback
Great collection of some of Merwin's early poetry. There's a mystical mysterious feel too a lot of his writing, which I like.

A Reading of "The Last One"
Format: Paperback
This poem represents Merwin at his insidious best, the conversational tone of the poem slowly leading to something imminently and undefinably dark, doom-laden. The poem was originally published in "The Lice" a book of poems written in the French countryside where, Merwin says, "I felt at once a profound attraction to the rural world in which I was living and a disquieting recognition of the fragility and uncertainty of my relation to it." "The Last One" ominously conveys that disquiet.

I have many books by Mr Merwin and I like the Budhist mindset that shines through.
