Sizes XS-3XL

The late 1960s and early 1970s brought the height of popularity of the kaftan in mainstream fashion. Fashion icons such as Diana Vreeland and Elizabeth Taylor touted this dress as the most feminine fashion, and as “fashionable for the beautiful people”. This modern kaftan was inspired by the traditional kaftan of Morocco, where it has been worn for many centuries.

Our sewing pattern is for a typical early 1970s kaftan – a V-neck, empire waist, pullover dress. The flattering drape of this full dress makes it comfortable and graceful. Our pattern is floor-length with short sleeves and optional inside ties for shaping. Bodice and panels around the dress allow for mixing of fabric prints. Make this in a soft cotton for a perfect poolside or beach cover-up. Or, make it from a flowing silk and dress it up for an elegant evening. It can go from poolside to brunch to evening attire easily.  This pattern is easy to sew, as well as easy to embellish.  Add embroidery to the neckline or sleeves or hem.

This pattern is available as a paper pattern and a PDF pattern.  Choose the version you want in the drop down menu.

Suggested fabrics:  Light to medium weight fabrics with good drape such as silk, cotton gauze, voile, lawn, silk/cotton blends, handkerchief linen, rayon challis, Tencel.

Powerful!
Format: Hardcover
The Girl in the Walls is mysterious, raw, and beautifully written. If you have any connection to autism, particularly how autism affects families, you will know how powerful this story truly is. Understanding how the autistic brain is designed, the beauty, the pain, and the family dynamics and genetics involved is so needed. I believe this story has the power to bring healing and understanding to it’s readers. Meg Eden Kuyatt is such a gifted writer. Her words brought tears, awe, and hope. Her poetic style and usage of font, space, and text is unique and inspiring. Meg’s artistic ability shines through on the page in a way that I’ve never seen until Good Different, and I think this book is even more captivating artistically.

A Unique and Incredible Tale
Format: Kindle
This book brilliantly shows what it feels like for me to go through the world neurodivergently. The characters truly resonate. The artistry of the layout and imagery is compelling and once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. What an authentic glimpse into an intense inner world!

Building something wonderful out of the broken pieces
Format: Hardcover
Meg Eden Kuyatt has done it again. I am a big fan of novel in verse, and this author is one reason why. The poetry delivers character, setting, and story in a clear, believable voice. The protagonist, V, is a middle school girl full of feelings, celebrating her difference while fighting for her place in the wonderland of neurotypicals. V introduces herself in vibrant socks that say “I am strange and wonderful.” And with that, we are off. V is reluctantly spending the summer with her grandma Jojo in the pristine white house that has been in her family for generations. History is definitely living here. The house is a character itself (and a metaphor). I love that V’s cousin Cat creates assemblages, an art form I was not familiar with. Cat describes it as taking discarded, broken stuff and turning it into something beautiful (another metaphor). There is a lot going on here and a satisfying resolution brought on by a heaping dose of empathy. Highly recommend for the suggested audience (juvenile fiction, grades 3-7), their teachers, and families with neurodivergence.
