Philodendron selloum (Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum), native to South America, is a large, self-heading plant known for its deeply lobed, tropical leaves that grow wide and dramatic from a central trunk. What makes this plant special is its ability to create a full, tree-like presence indoors, with massive foliage that gives a true jungle feel as it matures and spreads.

Light drives both leaf size and how compact the plant stays. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the leaves come in smaller with less defined lobes and the plant opens up more. Strong light keeps the foliage broader, more deeply cut, and the plant more structured.

Watering should be steady but not heavy. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This plant cycles energy into new leaves, so it may drop an older lower leaf when pushing a new one, which is normal. If multiple leaves yellow at once from the base, the soil is staying too wet. If new leaves emerge smaller and less cut, it’s reacting to light levels. Sudden wilting while the soil is wet points to root stress, not thirst.

An excellent book
Format: Kindle
I am a new fantasy fiction writer, and the detail of this book really helped me out very much. As I was searching Amazon for a book on this topic, this was one of the few that stood out. The author also offers continuous lessons on world building through his free newsletter, which I also find helpful. I highly recommend this book. Thank you Randy. L.M. Montes

Both books in this series are worthwhile reference sources
Format: Kindle
Great books--I got both this one and Creating Places. I simply stumbled upon both books online when looking for something about plotting, and I bought them both, and am glad I did. I'm a fairly experienced writer in literary genres, but fantasy/sci-fi are different. The first book I got, Creating Places, was immediately useful as I was creating a land ringed with tall mountains, and I wondered about rainfall--this book answered my question about how mountains effect rainfall! It's not like you couldn't look some of this stuff up in other ways, but having it all in one place was very useful to me. This one still had tips I was interested in, but I agree with the reviewer who noted it did feel like it was more about world building for world building's sake (at least in this book). Plenty of things didn't apply to what I'm writing, but if you use these as a handy reference--rather than a "how to" book, I still think there is a lot of use here. (Plus, when I bought it, the book was under $3, so I figured why not?)

A lot to think on!
Format: Kindle
I've been world building for several years now and thought I'd pick up this book just to see someone else's thoughts. This book really brought up some fun points I've skipped and gave me a lot of tools, can't wait to read the next one!

Very useful resource
Format: Paperback
I reference this book often when creating new characters, monsters and even animals and plants. The book has lots of interesting and useful tips and insights that I've found very useful. Its also organized in a manner that is easy to just go to the sections you need.

A fantastic resource for building your world
Format: Kindle
A fantastic resource for building your world. This book focuses specifically on the life in your created world, with lots of useful advice on fleshing out the deities, different humanoid species, animals, monsters, and undead. I'm very much looking forward to the release of the other two books that will follow on from this one.
